Download Design Templates for the 4 Barn Quilt Designs Here:
8x8 panel of felt (craft felt is fine). Other fabrics work fine as long as they are a tight weave. I like something a bit thicker for this project. Felt is my favorite. -
4-5 colors of carded roving. You will need about 1/4 ounce of each color. We sell the carded roving here. Either the carded corriedale or the felted fleece works. https://bellasflock.com/collections/felting-wool-supplies
- note - carded roving is best for this project. If you have merino or similar breeds of roving, you can try these, but they have a longer staple and don't felt as neatly. And if this sounds like a foreign language, you probably don't have carded roving in your stash. Yarn will not work.

Designs. Download the template above. You can use the design on your fabric in several ways:
- Print it on Paper Solvy — a water-soluble paper you can pin to your fabric and felt right through. You can purchase online. It prints like regular paper in a printer.
- Use a transfer pen like the Sulky Iron On Transfer Pen to trace the design printed on paper and then iron it on to your fabric. They have full instructions with the pen.
- Free hand - these are pretty simple geometric designs that you could draw onto your fabric using a ruler.
- Needle Felting Needles. We use a size 38 needle for these kits. We do sell these through our online store.
- Cork Backing or Frame (optional). You can purchase cork backing to make a trivet (available online) or a frame to hang your art. The finished project is 6x6 inches.
